Sorta Recommended Read - At the Bottom of Everything by Ben Dolnick

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is a story of friendship - a friendship borne out of genuine camaraderie that quickly turns into the type of strained friendship that remains due to a forced tie to the past. While stunning in it's descriptions, this book for me was a bit anti-climatic and didn't turn into a true masterpiece. However, it was written well enough that I still found it worthwhile to read.

Recommended Read - Ember Island by Kimberly Freeman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the only kind of "romance" novel I would read - one that has a dark and twisted underlying plot! While the book starts off slow, and there are some jumps between past and present, it slowly picks up speed and by the middle you won't want to put it down. The characters are interesting, the plot goes from painful to sweet to bitter and back again so many times in a masterful way, and the ending is just right - not too complete, not to open. Great read!
